the scariest thing

OMG it has been a while since the last time i wrote my blog... just too much work, or too much procrastination....

I have been wondering what is the most scary thing on earth. When I was small I would definitely say darkness. I still remember I wouldnt go to the bathroom alone without my mum's company at night and I would be frightened by my own shadow. I always had a feeling that something would pop out right behind me.

As I grew up, my perspective changed. I was so afraid to lose. Erm.. it wasnt just about ranking in schools or competitions. I mean... I was afraid to lose face or lose some people's support. But i eventually found out that there's nothing to worry about because you could definitely learn something everytime when you lose. A loss can actually enrich your life in general. So losing is somehow not that scary as you can gain something at the same time.

I just found out what was the most scary thing. I think disillusions and disappointments are the worst things ever. Human beings are born to be optimists but unfortunately lives are meant to be harsh. No matter how much you expect from someone/something, you will just get disillusioned some time later. The first taste of disappointment is insanely bittter but then it becomes tasteless. Not because things get better, but just because you become more desensitized, indifferent and appathetic. Learn not to expect, does it sound too pessimistic? But i guess this is the best way to protect yourself...

  1. jo mud gum grey arrr?? well.. true that one gets disillusioned every now and then. even truer when we get into our active lives. But disappointment and disillusionment do not imply life doesnt go on! it does, all the same. As long as it does, one shall continue to make his contributions, in spite of pessimism. I do believe that THE thing to be rejoyced on earth, is that a person can always, if his free will chooses to, strive hard after many defeats.

like katie says, if something doesnt kill you, it makes you stronger!

  2. Winnie, I can't agree more... After reading a few of your blogs, I realised my viewing perspective of life is quite similar to yours~ =]]
    虽然常言说: 有得,必有失。
    但在不幸之时,上天不会只对你不公平,
    只要冷静地反思,你就会发现:
    有失时,其实也必有得。
Well, from your comments above, I can see you get this as well~
And also, I think that being not afraid to lose is a very powerful thing too – by not having this fear, you will be able to stay sensible at all times, however horrible the situations are, you will always be able to decide which actions to go for shall be the most beneficial to yourself.
If applying to losing in competitions, well, at least you have brought up the courage and had a go~ Try thinking it this way -- if you have never tried, you will not even have the chance to win!

You said you 'just found out' that disillusions and disappointments are the worst things ever. Coincidently enough, it applies to me as well. Recently, I have experienced betrayal; from the process of finding out to handling the situation was surely tough and very upsetting. Life is affected by too many uncontrollable factors, which some may upset us, even though it is not our fault, sadly we will have to bare the negative emotions they caused. Although it is harsh, we will need to learn how to accept their existence, and live with them really~ 这个世界大概就是这么一回事:残酷的现实满满的;童话的美丽世界,根本就不存在。 And that is why childhood innocence is beautiful, because it is full of happiness and fairytales, but once we enter maturity- the adulthood, we need to start facing cruel realities... sensibly of course =P

Well contradict to what you’ve suggested; I do think that you need to have a certain degree of expectations though, because this indicates hope, which will keep you going in life. But indeed, do not over expect, because this does subsequent huge disappointments, and so that when unexpectedly some tiny returns do come back, how joyful will that be! XD But don’t be afraid when you do come across your fear -- ‘the scariest thing’ -- you may think that你身在不幸中, but don’t forget that at least you don’t have to face it alone, since your family and friends will always be by your side to support you, in this sense, you will feel joyful that at least 你也是幸福的~ ^^
